AMVCA Weekend: Check Out The Four Yoruba Female Producers We Are Rooting For

On Thursday, February 6th of 2020, the AMVCA (Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards) unveiled their nominees for the seventh edition of the Award ceremony.

The nominations were announced on all Africa Magic channels and anchored by couple Ibrahim Suleiman and Linda Ejiofor.

The Award platform is celebrating 28 categories with seven of them open to public decision/voting while the other twenty one would be decided by the AMVCA jury.

This year, the category of the Best Indigenous Language Movie/TV Series Yoruba present the works of four female producers including Ronke Odusanya's Ajoji Godogbo, Yewande Famakin's Alubarika, Oyebade Adebimpe's Adebimpe Omo Oba and Wumi Olabimtan's Intent. Among these four female producers cum actors, one of them would walk home with the AMVCA plaque later this Weekend, Saturday 14, March 2020 at the event's grand finale. According to the AMVCA website, nominees were selected through a call for entries. The entries were shortlisted based on compliance with the guidelines and entry criteria. Shortlisted entries were then reviewed in the 1st phase judging process to select the nominees. The whole process was monitored and verified by an independent auditor.

As we look forward to Saturday, here's a brief look at the four producers' profile;

• Ronke Odusanya: Popularly known as Flakky Ididowo, Ronke Odusanya is an actress and producer born in Ogun State, Nigeria on 3rd of May, 1973. Some of her notable works include Jenifa, Astray, A girl's note, Twisted, Owo Agbara and more. In 2017, she won the BON Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

•Yewande Famakin: Yewande Famakin is one of the leading and creative women in the film industry. She is a versatile thespian and always approach the industry table with unique views to her storylines. Some of her works include Dalemo, Ti Tabili Bayi, Teniola and her nominated project, Alubarika which screened across cinemas in Nigeria last year.

•Oyebade Adebimpe: Bursting into the very competitive film industry by playing Onikede in Yomi Fabiyi's Agbede Meji some years ago. She has collaborated effortlessly with numerous creatives and consistently proven that she deserve a seat at the table when Nollywood film discourse is raised. She has won the City People Movie Awards and MAYA Awards for Best New Actress and Breakout Star of the Year respectively. Some of her works include Entrapped, Dear Sister, Jade's Cross and more.

•Wumi Olabimtan: Wumi is a Uk-based filmmaker with panache for excellence and outstanding uniqueness in storytelling. Her movie, Alumooni starring Bimbo Oshin, Muyiwa Ademola and Adebayo Salami mirrors the conditions of the Nigerian society last year. Some of the works she has starred in include Ako Ise, Eti, Alumooni and her nominated project, Intent.
